Well the singing diva is back! With all of the controversy surrounding her life, many have asked and wondered if she would ever be able to be on top of her game in the music world. If you ever watched the reality TV show “Being Bobby Brown”, you would probably say to yourself that she would never be able to return. I personally want her to get back to what she loves doing but that’s just me, I want everyone to succeed.
The new album is now out and here is my 2 cents of an opinion. Many people will be “disappointed” with the album because it may not stack up to the albums that made Whitney the superstar we love. However let me ask you this …. how can anyone who has been to the top of the mountain and beyond go any further? Is there a further than beyond?
If you are looking or hoping for a “Didn’t We Almost Have It All”, “The Greatest Love Of All” Whitney Houston, you won’t find one. In fact I would say that, that Whitney Houston has come and gone. So stop expecting it. Yes …. she’s gone …. forever in the sounds of the best of CDs.
BUT HOLD ON THERE!!!!
What we have now is a story of triumph, a story of overcoming, a story of struggle within and without, a story of falling from grace only to rise again! A story of Victory!
Please do not listen to her latest release with the anticipation of the best of the old. Rather listen to it with the expectation of one who overcame a very painful and trying period of life. She made it through all of that to bring to us what she had left over and to be honest … it’s refreshing.
As a music producer myself, I would say she has at least 3 hits with the possibility of more. My favorites are “Like I Never Left”, “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength”, “Worth It”, “I Got You”, “For The Lovers”, “Salute”, “Nothin But Love” and “Million Dollar Bill”. When listening to this album, it’s apparent that she is speaking from her experiences and the things that she felt and dealt with. It is probably the most frightening project for her to release because we know the public will be like wolves in sheep skin – loving you when it’s all good and eating you for breakfast when it’s not. I dare anyone to listen to this album more than twice. If you do …. you will at the very least like it. It is a good album and trust me on that.
This is not the Traditional Whitney but the Survivor Whitney and as with any fight in life you will loose a part of you, but you will also gain a new part of you as well as gained wisdom. Why continue beating anyone down when they have worked so hard to get back up. Give the album a listen and add it into your collection.
